What is the best way to wellbeing?

Well being is so important for everyone’s health, mental and emotional state on a daily basis. This is how we can all overcome adversity, and achieve those inherent desires and dreams we all long to achieve. What we believe, how we grew up and what’s happened to us so far in life generally determines our attitudes, mannerisms and state of mind. Physical, mental and emotional trauma can create a huge impact on our well being, as well as our health.

Because this is the way life is, these situations cannot be avoided. We can only find ways to cope with situations and people that have negatively impacted our emotional and spiritual well being. Although it is a challenging feat, it is one worth pursuing for quality of life.

6 ways to increase your well being, no matter what life throws at you

  1. Exercise regularly. Exercise is more than something you do for your body and to alter your health. Exercise also reduces stress, anxiety and symptoms of depression. It also boosts your self confidence and well being.
Even spending time walking in a park, or the beach has wonderful physical and mental benefits. Training for major events also gives you something to aspire to, and a new found sense of achievement, knowing you have the inner strength and power to pursue the end goal with passion and commitment. These make huge differences to your inner well being, as well as the positive impact you will have on others. Again I will always say time and time again that weight training is a wonderful form of exercise and well being booster for life.
  2. Getting plenty of sleep regularly. Regular sleep helps us maintain proper brain functioning, as well as emotional and mental well being. Not enough of us priorities sleep as an absolute necessity in daily life.
We should aim for about 7–8 hours per night. One tell tale sign that you need more rest is if you are fighting the urge to nap during the day, or experience brain fog.
Try to go to bed and get up at the same time daily, so you can begin to structure some form of a routine, preparing your body to rest and wake.
Another good way is to allocate an hour or so before bed, to begin the unwinding process. Read a book, take a warm bath with lavender oil, go for a walk, or spend some time listening to meditation music. These all have profound effects on your state, and will induce feelings of relaxation.
  3. Practice gratitude daily. Being grateful for even the smallest things on a daily basis can have a huge impact on how we feel. What I love to do is write 3 things I’m grateful for in the morning (before I start my day) and then again in the evening (when my day has ended). It gives me a lot more self awareness of all the goodness that is around me. It’s very challenging to notice these things, unless you are aware of them. it could be a friend listening to you, or asking if you are ok. Maybe someone bought you a coffee. All these acts of kindness are to be given gratitude for. It will help you to become more and more aware of positive things around you all the time.
  4. Spend time with your friends. Even if we cannot see our closest friends on a daily basis, we can text or chat on the phone in between meets. It’s always nice to know that someone you care about a lot is there for you, and just a call away. Try to make time to laugh, chat and have a good time with the people you love and care about. It’s not about how many friends you do or don’t have, what matters is how meaningful these friendships are. You are completely blessed having one or two friendships that have lasted decades.
If you want to meet new people, why not join volunteer groups, workout classes, or even do some kind of a course. This is a great way to meet people, especially people that hold the same values and interest. Common values bring closeness and bonding over a long period of time.
  5. Immerse yourself in nature. Take a long walk on the beach with a friend, rock climb, explore, or even spend a day somewhere new, filled with endless green spaces. There is something about the fresh air, pine scent and the wondrous peace that being in open, nature filled places can have on our senses. Our bodies long for being in our natural environment, away from electronics and artificial lights. Take the time to listen in on nature, the animals and the sway of branches in the wind and leaves falling. Why not explore a gorgeous waterfall, take your camera and best friends along. This experience will leave you with inner peace and harmony with nature.
  6. Nourish your body as well as your soul. Be kinder to yourself by making nourishing, healthy and fresh foods on a regular basis. Buy what’s in season and cook from scratch all the things you love. Invite friends over, or share recipes together. Explore the possibilities of foods, and the joy it can bring in your life. I love the whole experience of cooking. There is something magical about the process. Nothing tastes quite like it, and there is a sense of inner appreciation for the process.

Finding your inner well being is a work in progress. We are in an endless school called life, and things can challenge us, break us and bring us to our knees. But when we breath, open our eyes and see all the beautiful things life has to offer, we develop a sense of inner peace, or tranquility. Let’s tap into that more often, to make our souls hurt a little less, and feel a lot more peace and harmony.
