Does fasting reset your body?

Fasting is known for its ability to regenerate cells that have been damaged and regenerate the immune system. This has been a very well-known factor when it comes to the damaging side effects of chemotherapy.

As we age, our immune system declines, which increases our susceptibility to disease. Prolonged fasting cycles of up to 2 and 4 days over a course of six months kills older and damaged cells, regenerating new ones.

When you starve, the system tries to save energy, and one of the things it can do to save energy is to recycle a lot of the immune cells that aren’t needed, especially damaged ones. One thing that does happen when we fast, is that our white blood cell count goes down. When you re-feed, the blood cells come back again. So, what does this mean, and where does it come from?

Prolonged fasting forces our bodies to use stores of glucose, fat and ketones, as well as breaking down significant portions of white blood cells. This is ultimately disputed as lightening your system of excess cargo.

When fasting, the depletion of white blood cells creates that trigger stem cell-based regeneration of new immune system cells. It also lowers your levels of IGF-1, a growth factor hormone that are attached to ageing, tumour progression and cancer risk.

There is more investigating probabilities now being tested with regard to the effects of fasting on different systems and organs, not only the immune system. These will surely come about in the near future to help us further enhance the effects of fasting on our bodies.

From this research, you can bet that our bodies re-set or more so, rejuvenate, just by abstaining from food for prolonged periods of time, further reducing our chances of developing many diseases. This is a wonderful strategy for all of us to implement, making our lives more abundant and increasing our wellbeing. I’ve always narrowed in on the fat loss effects of fasting, but there is so much more to it than that. Choose a lifetime approach towards good health and leading an active life as you age, rather than a simple quick fix.
