What is the biggest hurdle facing those who need to lose weight?

Weight loss is not only about the food choices we make, it’s also about what’s going on inside of you…

When it comes to weight loss, there are several hurdles to over come when beginning your journey. This is because we are embarking on something new, unknown, and we don’t have much experience in the area. It’s similar to anything new you decide to pursue in your life.

When deciding to make the change, we have to form new habits in our daily life to cater for this. Habits take about 1 month to really cement in our routine and our conscious. Making the effort on a daily basis, is what guarantees success.

8 of the biggest excuses that can prevent fat loss

  1. You don’t like healthy food and find it bland and tasteless
  2. It’s expensive to eat healthy long term
  3. You don’t know where to start
  4. You don’t like exercise
  5. You don’t know what exercise to perform
  6. There isn’t enough time in the day for preparing food
  7. You like unhealthy food too much
  8. You can’t be bothered with the effort involved

Do any of these sound familiar to you? Are they part of your excuse, or someone close to you?

I believe all of these 8 excuses are in and of themselves important to address, but the key issue here is the main inhibitor that stops people. This is a fear that’s cannot be explained or perhaps has not been uncovered yet, and that is..

The number 1 hurdle to weight loss is..

  1. Lack of self belief in oneself that they can achieve it.
Lack of self belief in yourself, and what you can achieve, is hidden in the small excuses above. What you really think deep down is that you don’t have the knowledge, the commitment and the drive to go all in, and achieve those weight loss results you want badly enough. These are all self limiting beliefs, and stop us in our tracks, paralyzing us with fear and self doubt. I know I’ve experienced this on far too many occasions myself. It’s very painful, and is a large roadblock when it comes to achieving our goals.
The question now stands as to what we can do about this lack of self belief, and how we can overcome it in order to achieve what we want. Here is what I’ve used time and time again that never fails. I do hope it helps you as well.

5 ways to breakthrough the barriers holding you back from achieving your goals

  1. Search for what you want, not what you don’t want. Write a list of the things you want. What is the weight in numbers, what do you want to wear, how do you want to feel and look when you’ve achieved this. Visualisation is key to igniting your imagination of what can be, and what you can achieve. Think of that gorgeous dress, bikini, those muscles and that flat belly. This is within your reach whenever you choose it. Dismiss any negative thoughts, focusing on moving ahead at what you will achieve
  2. Create a beautiful image board. Put images of what clothes you want to wear, what kind of body you aspire to have, who inspires you, the places you want to visit, and anything else that will entice you to keep on moving towards your goal. I love putting affirmations on my wall, and even images of athletes I admire for their hard work, tenacity and positive influences. Put this board somewhere you can see every day, to remind you of what’s to come.
  3. Start small, and start today. Even if it’s one thing you do, do it today and stick with it. Then, as your confidence grows, add more to the list. Soon enough, it will become second nature to you. Celebrate the wins, no matter how small, because they all add up to something huge long term.
  4. Get support. Instil the trust of a close friend, sibling or relative you can talk with regularly. When you have a bad day, instead of reaching for the fridge door, pick up the phone and call them. Pour out your heart, and let it all out. Let them listen and help guide you. It’s so important to have people on your team along any tough journey. One day, you could be a support person for someone else.
  5. Remember that weight loss takes some time, embrace the journey. We all want results right now, and when they don’t appear, there is an even bigger chance we will cave in and go back to our old ways. The really successful people are the ones that stick to it through thick and thin. They go out there, search far and wide for the answers, and get them. Yes it’s hard and tough at times, but you are capable of this and much more. Seek the answers you need, and keep jumping over those forks in the road. It’s not only about the results, it’s about the journey you take on that will make you the person you were meant to be. Keep going until you get there.

I really hope that I have given you some kind of underlying factors that stop most people in their weight loss journey. We all have moments that we lack self belief, and in order to overcome this, we must challenge ourselves step by step. Please do contact me if you have any questions. I’d love to hear from you.
