Discipline is the best-kept secret that helps you achieve any body composition goal
As hard as it is, discipline is an essential trait to win the weight loss war. As the saying goes, if you do what is easy — life will be hard. It’s time to think of disciplined eating and exercising as a lifelong plan of action. You eat well 80–90% of the time and have your odd indulgences. Craving, bingeing, and overeating will always rear their ugly heads and stop you right in your tracks. But, you know what you have to do because your long term goal is to be as healthy as possible and live in full force for as long as you can. This is the type of person who does what is hard, so their life can be easy. But, it’s not easy watching your food intake, saying no to a drinking bender every weekend or bingeing with your friends because it’s what seems like a lot of fun at the time.
It takes discipline to achieve the following:
- A successful career
- A lucrative business
- Building muscle
- Losing weight and keeping it off
- Being a great parent/friend/spouse
All of the above takes a certain amount of time building, nourishing and then later on down the track, the sustained labour leads to a better lifestyle and happy people around you (not to mention your happiness). The same goes for weight loss. It all takes time, consistent effort, and you have to do it for as long as you want to see the results. There are no fat loss or far burning shortcuts — it’s hard for everyone. But, you can try different kinds of natural alternatives, appetite suppressants or shakes. There are so many things out there; I can’t even begin to understand why anyone would go down that path. But, unfortunately, most of the time, these shortcuts cause more damage than what they are worth. The reason is that shortcuts don’t give you long term gains. There is no point wasting time or compromising your health for something you know won’t work long term. The real deal comes down when it’s just you and the moment — the moment of doing something that will bring you pleasure or pain. It’s a personal choice that only you can make. The choice is always yours, and it’s your battle.
I choose to have the best health I can attain for the following reasons:
- I know what it’s like to be sick, and I don’t want that life anymore
- I watched my two parents die of cancer because of their poor lifestyle & nutritional choices
- I want to live a healthy and vibrant life forever
- I want to die with dignity and be free of disease
- My ideal life does not contain any medicines or doctors recommendations.
You make your own rules, as it’s your own life. However, I encourage you to think about the consequences of your actions regarding diet and exercise every day. It’s not about living for the moment — Love yourself enough to care about the other moments that haven’t arrived yet — but will eventually manifest in whatever form as a result of your choices today. Choose sound health and abundant lifestyle and spend as much time with the people you love as possible.
